Submission on establishing the National Centre for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse

Families Australia welcomes the opportunity to contribute to this consultation undertaken by the Commonwealth Department of Social Services.

Background to this consultation:

On 30 March 2019, the Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, committed $22.5 million in funding over five years towards the establishment of the National Centre for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse.

The establishment of the National Centre was a key recommendation (9.9) of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (Royal Commission).

The Royal Commission recommended that the Australian Government, along with state and territory governments, establish a national centre to address child sexual abuse by reducing stigma, promoting help-seeking and supporting good practice.
